Advising

Policies and Procedures

Students are responsible for registering for the required courses in the proper sequence to acquire the meteorology degree. This page is designed to provide information and assist you in accomplishing this.

The Meteorology faculty will serve as your major advisors. The faculty are available for individual advising appointments, provided you have read all of the documentation on this page. Students should create their own plan of courses to sign up for on a semester-by-semester basis, and review this plan with their major advisor. Drs. Baxter, Mower, and Orf are all available to serve as major advisors. Students are strongly encouraged to seek out advising on courses to select to complete General Education requirements through CMU’s academic advisors, as detailed here:

The Meteorology program is highly structured, meaning that certain courses must be successfully completed in order to register for subsequent courses. All prerequisite courses will be enforced by the registration system. In addition, certain meteorology courses may only be offered in either the fall or spring semesters. Currently, no meteorology courses are offered in the summer. Students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.0 in courses required for the meteorology major in order to graduate.
